* Stripe's part lands on half a cent, so Stripe's own rounding decides whether the two parts come to $0.99 or $1.00. Ours rounds half a cent up: 1.7% of $15.00 is 25.5¢, so $0.26; 1.9% is 28.5¢, so 29¢, and 25¢ more is $0.54.

An example · not a real booking

A $600 booking, in two card payments.

Say you take a group booking of $600.00: a $150.00 deposit paid online when they book, and the rest paid at the counter. Both payments are on domestic cards. To keep the arithmetic plain, this example has no tax.

At booking, online

The two parts together come to $28.20: 4.6% + 30¢ on each payment, $7.20 on the deposit and $21.00 at the counter.

Two payments means two 30¢ parts. As one payment, the same $600.00 would cost $27.90.

Stripe's part is at Stripe's standard rate for domestic cards.

Cash and tax carry none of our part.

Tax. Our part is worked out on the price before tax, never on the tax itself. Tax is added where your area requires it.

Tips. Tips are available.

Cash. Cash carries no fee at all. Had the $450.00 in the example above been paid in cash, the only fees would have been on the $150.00 deposit.

Deposits. A deposit is not charged twice. At the counter, our part ran on the $450.00 left, not on the $600.00.

Stripe's part. Stripe's own part is worked out on the whole amount the card is charged, tax included. So on a taxed sale the two parts come to a little more than 4.6% + 30¢ of the price before tax.

Where the money goes

From your customer's card to your bank, on a Stripe account in your own name.

  1. Your customer pays you the price, plus tax, plus any tip they choose. Nothing else.
  2. The payment is made on your own Stripe account, in your name.
  3. In the same payment, Stripe takes its own fee and moves our part to us.
  4. Stripe pays the rest out to your bank, on Stripe's schedule for your account.
  5. Our part is taken payment by payment. There is not a second bill for the software.

BeargrassAI never holds your money. We only ever receive our part, and we checked that against Stripe's own records.

We quote one number; your books show both parts, ours and Stripe's.

When you refund a card payment from the counter screen, our part goes back too, in proportion. Refund a $100.00 online sale in full and our $1.70 goes back; refund $40.00 of it and $0.68 goes back.

Commerce

4.6% + 30¢ on each card payment, on domestic cards.

4.6% for the 406.

Cards from other countries cost more, and that extra is passed through. Cash carries no fee. Your customer pays nothing extra.

Inside the rate

  • Stripe's card processing, at its standard rate for domestic cards.
  • Our part: the booking window and its deposits, the confirmation emails, the counter screen and your own admin, the link to the card reader, and the books, with our fee and Stripe's actual cost side by side.
  • At the counter our part is larger, for the setup and upkeep of the counter.

Not inside it

  • The card reader. You buy it, and it is yours.
  • Your website, priced on its own: see Pricing.
  • The extra on cards from other countries, passed through.
  • Stripe's fee on a dispute, taken from your own account.

The setup and the quote are worked out together, in a conversation.
